Modern four-wheel drives are extremely capable vehicles, but safely using that capability requires more than simply selecting 4WD and pointing the vehicle at an obstacle.
Roadcraft's One-Day 4WD Course gives participants a practical understanding of their vehicle, its capabilities and its limitations while developing low-risk techniques for travelling across varied off-road terrain.
The course combines classroom education with extensive practical driving on Roadcraft's private training property near Gympie.
Participants learn about vehicle setup, 4WD systems, terrain assessment, appropriate gear and drive-mode selection, vehicle positioning and techniques for negotiating changing surfaces and obstacles safely.

Roadcraft's purpose-built 4WD tracks allow participants to progressively apply the techniques discussed in the classroom across a variety of terrain.
Practical activities include steep ascents and descents, uneven and articulated terrain, mud and slippery surfaces, water crossings and other obstacles designed to demonstrate vehicle capability, traction and limitations.
The focus isn't on seeing how extreme your vehicle can go. It is on reading the terrain, selecting an appropriate technique and maintaining control before a situation becomes difficult.

Participants undertake the course in their own 4WD.
Learning in your own vehicle allows you to become familiar with its controls, dimensions, visibility, traction systems and behaviour in an environment where those characteristics can be explored safely.
Whether you've recently purchased your first 4WD, want to better understand a vehicle you've owned for years or simply want to be better prepared before travelling off-road, the course is designed to build knowledge and practical capability without encouraging unnecessary risk.
