Nationally recognised training available in selected driving and towing units.

Two-day nationally recognised trailer and caravan towing training combining towing theory, practical vehicle dynamics, manoeuvring and low-risk driving techniques. Successful participants receive a Statement of Attainment for AURTGA001 – Drive and manoeuvre trailers.

Nationally recognised practical towing training.

Roadcraft's AURTGA001 – Drive and manoeuvre trailers course is a comprehensive two-day program for participants who require nationally recognised training in the safe operation and manoeuvring of trailers and caravans.

The course combines theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training, allowing participants to understand not only how to tow a trailer, but how the addition of a trailer changes the behaviour, limitations and handling characteristics of the towing vehicle.

Before attaching the trailer, participants undertake practical exercises covering driver positioning, vision, steering, vehicle dynamics, emergency braking and collision avoidance. These activities establish an understanding of the towing vehicle before its characteristics are altered by the addition of a trailer.

Once the trailer or caravan is connected, training covers safe coupling and safety chains, trailer braking systems, electrical connections, load distribution, manoeuvring and reversing, turning characteristics, sway management, adverse conditions, emergency braking and low-risk towing strategies.

Practical training with real towing combinations.

Participants develop practical skills using suitable towing vehicles and trailers in a controlled driver training environment.

The course explores the effect a trailer has on acceleration, braking, steering, turning radius and vehicle stability while allowing participants to practise manoeuvres that can be difficult to develop safely during normal road use.

The emphasis throughout the course is on recognising risk early, understanding the limitations of the towing combination and applying techniques that reduce the likelihood of an emergency developing.

Nationally Recognised Training.

AURTGA001 – Drive and manoeuvre trailers is a nationally recognised unit of competency.

Participants who successfully complete all required training and assessment will be issued a Statement of Attainment by Roadcraft Driver Education, RTO 41542.
